Abstract

|
|
1) Effects of neostigmine(NS) on heart rate of the healthy men were investigated.
2) Neostigmine injection (0.5 mg, i. v.) elicited transitory increase of heart rate within 5 min in 33 persons out of 52, decrease in 19 persons. At 10 min after NS injection 5 out of 52 persons showed increase of heart rate.
3) The variation of heart rate by NS was significantly correlated with the heart rate before NS administration. The increasing effect of NS on heart rate is more prominent when the original rate was slow and vice versa.
4) Neostigmine injection did not elicit heart rate increase in persons who were pretreated with atropine.
5) The decrease of heart rate by NS in atropine -pretreated persons was more prominent than in those who did not receive, atropine-pretreatment.
6) Neostigmine, when injected into the right subclavian artery to reach the cervical sympathetic ganglia of the spinal rabbits, produced cardiac acceleration in a part of the rabbits.
